Discover Seoul Pass – How to utilize it?!

Discover Seoul Pass adalah tourism pass yang baru – baru ini diluncurkan oleh Seoul Tourism Organization. Begitu membaca berita tentang ini, saya langsung terinspirasi untuk menulis postingan ini. 

I read a post about Discover Seoul Pass launching on social media today and suddenly I got an idea to blog about it. On this post, you will find a way to utilize this card. Some people think it's impossible to go to all of the attractions that included in the pass, so what's the point to buy this pass. 
In my opinion, I do agree with them that we can't go to all of the attractions in 24 hours, but I think this card is usefull and worth it if we can utilize it. 

Dengan harga KRW 39.900 won (sekitar IDR 470.000), pass ini memberikan kita 24 jam free akses ke berbagai tempat wisata favorit di Seoul yang menurut promosinya tarif reguler untuk memasuki tempat-tempat wisata tersebut adalah lebih dari 150.000 won. Mari kita buktikan benar atau tidaknya promo tersebut di postingan ini. Selain untuk akses ke tempat wisata, kartu ini juga dapat berfungsi sebagai T-money card (untuk transportasi dan belanja di beberapa merchant yang bekerja sama) – akan tetapi kita harus top up saldonya terlebih dahulu. 

Kartu pass sejenis ini mengingatkan saya dengan Osaka Amazing Pass yang saya gunakan di Osaka tahun lalu. Kalau untuk Osaka Amazing pass saya sudah membuktikan sendiri kalau kartu itu memang worth it, asalkan kita pandai mengatur itinerary kita dan memilih tempat yang kita tuju. Saya rasa untuk Discover Seoul Pass ini juga akan worth it kalau kita mengatur itinerary kita dengan jeli.

Beberapa komentar yang saya baca di postingan Seoul Korea di facebook mereka tentang pass ini mengatakan kalau pass ini tidak masuk akal karena sangatlah tidak mungkin untuk mengunjungi 16 tempat wisata dalam 24 jam, jadi intinya menurut beberapa orang pass-nya gak worth it. 
Menurut saya, memang benar kita gak mungkin bisa mengunjungi 16 tempat wisata dalam sehari, tapi kita bisa mengunjungi tempat-tempat yang kita sukai yang tercover oleh pass ini dengan biaya yang jauh lebih murah ketimbang kalau kita pergi ke sana tanpa pass ini.


Berikut ini saya akan coba membuat 1 itinerary dengan menggunakan pass ini. Saya sendiri belum pernah menggunakan pass ini (yaiyalah kan baru launching Juli kemarin, terakhir ke Korea November 2015), tapi percaya deh, saya akan menggunakannya saat saya ke Seoul lagi di kemudian hari dan inilah yang akan menjadi itinerary saya. 

Sebelum ke itinerary mari kita lihat dulu perbandingan biaya yang kita keluarkan untuk admission fee kalau kita menggunakan pass ini dan tidak.

According to the official website of this pass, the Discover Seoul Pass is cost KRW 39900 and it gives you a free access for 24 hours to 16 tourist attractions in Seoul. 
I made a little survey about each attraction and I can conclude that by using this pass we can access many favorite's tourist sites in Seoul with cheaper price. Check the below table for the comparison of price.

Dengan ini terbukti ya kalau promonya bukan boongan – memang benar total biaya dengan regular pricenya jauh lebih mahal. 

Selanjutnya adalah itinerary versi saya yang akan saya gunakan saat saya ke Seoul lagi. 

If I had a chance to go to Seoul again, I would love using this pass and my itinerary would be like this:

If I stayed at my favorit hostel at Hongdae (Hongdae Guesthouse - check the complete review about this hostel on this link - Bahasa only), my transportation cost would be like this:
Subway Hongdae - MBC World= KRW 1250 (5 mins). 
Subway MBC World - Leeum Samsung Museum of Art= KRW 1350 (25 mins). 
Subway Leeum Samsung Museum of Art - Grevin Museum= KRW 1250 (27 mins). 
Subway Grevin Museum - N-Seoul Tower Cable car= KRW 1250 (15 mins). 
N-Seoul Tower Cable Car return ticket= KRW 8500.
Subway N-Seoul Tower cable car - Hongdae= KRW 1350 (22 mins). 
Total transport cost =  14950
 

Dengan itinerari di atas total yang kita hemat untuk admission fee adalah KRW 18100 – lumayan banget loh.

Saya tau itinerari di atas memang jarak antar lokasinya berjauhan, saya pilih itinerari di atas karena saya sudah lama pengen ke MBC World dan Leeum Samsung Museum of Art, pengen mengunjungi Grevin Museum lagi dan pengen melihat kota Seoul di malam hari di observatory N-Seoul Tower. Alasan lainnya adalah  karena admission fee dari tempat-tempat ini lumayan mahal. Dengan alokasi waktu seperti di atas saya yakin punya cukup waktu untuk mengunjungi ketiganya atau bahkan bisa keempatnya (plus N-Seoul Tower), termasuk mengeksplore tempat tersebut semaksimal mungkin. Itinerari di atas ini cocok buat mereka yang udah pernah ke Seoul tapi belum pernah mengunjungi tempat-tempat tersebut.

Tips untuk memaksimalkan discounted pass ini: 
How to utilize this pass:

1. Sebisa mungkin pilih atraksi yang lokasinya berdekatan satu sama lain untuk menghemat waktu saat menuju ke lokasi berikutnya 
   Try to pick places that close with each other, so you can save your time, energy and of course money for the transportation cost. 
2. Kalau ingin memilih lokasi yang letaknya berjauhan, pastikan tarif admission fee-nya worth enough dengan harga pass-nya. Contoh case: itinerary pertama di atas. Lokasi cukup berjauhan, tapi dari di sisi lain kita bisa menghemat biaya yang cukup banyak dan punya banyak waktu untuk explore tiap lokasi karena yang dikunjungi hanya 3-4 lokasi.
   If you want to pick places that located in the different district, you need to make sure that the admission fee of those places are worth enough with the price of the pass. My first itinerary is one of the example of this case. Although the location of the sites are far, but since I only go to 3 - 4 places, I have enough time to explore each place and of course save money. 
    
3. Sebaiknya tidak menggunakan pass ini di hari Senin, Selasa, dan Minggu, karena beberapa atraksi tutup di hari tersebut atau memiliki waktu operasional yang lebih pendek di hari-hari tersebut. 
   Don't use this pass on Sunday, Monday and Thursday because some attractions/ tourist sites are closed on those days, the others also have shorter business hours on those days.
    
4. Pastikan jam operasional tiap atraksi termasuk last admissionnya saat menyusun itinerary. 
   Don't forget to check the operational hours of each attraction and the last admission time when you are planning the itinerary. 
    
5. Kalau berencana menyewa one day hanbok saat liburan di Seoul sebaiknya tidak menjadwalkannya saat menggunakan pass ini dan tidak memasukkan istana-istana kerajaan di itinerary saat menggunakan pass ini. Kenapa? Karena seluruh istana di Seoul termasuk Jongmyo Shrine dapat dikunjungi dengan gratis oleh mereka yang menggunakan hanbok. Jadi lebih baik schedule-kan hari lain. 
   If you plan to rent a one-day hanbok, better not to include the palaces and Jongmyo Shrine on your itinerary when you use this pass. Why? because you can visit all of the palaces in Seoul for free if you are wearing hanbok. 
    
6. Kalau saya, saya tidak akan menggunakan pass ini untuk mengunjungi istana apabila saya berencana membeli integrated palace ticket (tiket terusan 4 istana dan Jongmyo shrine, termasuk di dalamnya tiket free guided tour secret garden di Changdeokgung dengan harga KRW 10000). Saya juga tidak akan menggunakannya untuk Gyeongbokgung karena di kawasan Gyeongbokgung kita bisa mengunjungi 2 tourist sites lainnya dengan gratis, yang sayang banget kalau dilewatkan – National Folk Museum dan National Palace Museum, keduanya ini worth to visit buat yang suka banget dengan budaya Korea. 
   If I were you, I won't include Gyeongbokgung into my itinerary while using this pass. My reason is because there are 2 tourist sites with free admission on the same area with Gyeongbokgung. They are The National Palace Museum of Korea and The National Folk Museum of Korea. 
    
7. Saat menyusun itinerary perhitungkan dengan baik waktu untuk mencapai lokasi yang diinginkan dan sarana transportasi yang akan digunakan. Gunakan website ini untuk mengkalkulasi biaya subway dan waktu tempuhnya:
