K-Beauty : what to buy?

This is one of the most frequent asked questions that I’ve ever got from my friends. Every time me or their relatives inform them that they want to go to Korea and ask them whether they have some K-beauty products that they want to buy or not in Korea, they don’t know what to buy and usually, they will ask me about it.  

I believe they knew that Korea is famous with its beauty product. They knew it but since there are many brands in the market and K-beauties are pretty expensive here in Indonesia, almost 90% of them haven’t tried it yet. The brand that commonly found here are Etude House and Faceshop because these two have opened their store here for a few years. The other brands that already open their official store here are Laneige, The Saem, Skin Food, Tony Moly.

Ini adalah salah satu pertanyaan yang sering diajukan orang-orang ke saya, tiap kali ada rekan/keluarga/saya akan ke Korea. Mereka sebenarnya tau kalau Korea terkenal dengan produk kecantikannya, tapi mayoritas dari mereka tidak tau apa yang paling favorit dari produk-produk yang ada yang bisa mereka titip (baca: kembali ke tradisi orang kita yang terbiasa dengan titip menitip barang ke teman/keluarga yang berangkat ke luar negeri).

Berhubung brand kosmetik Korea sangatlah banyak dan belum banyak juga yang sudah punya store sendiri di Indonesia, jadinya memang gak heran kalau banyak dari kita yang belum tau produk apa saja yang jadi favorit di negaranya sono. Selain itu harga produk yang cukup mahal di store Indonesia juga menjadi alasan kenapa belum banyak dari kita yang menggunakan kosmetik Korea.

My answer 

First of all, I tell them that K-beauty price in Korea is much cheaper than in Indonesia (the price here can be 1-3 times from the price in Korea -depends on the brand), especially for brand that using a distributor in here. As I know, Laneige price in their store in Indonesia is the same with Korea but the product variants that available here are very limited due to BPOM register process that usually took almost a year. That’s why we’ve almost never had any limited edition packagings in here.

Berikut jawaban saya ke mereka 
Sebagai info saja harga produk kecantikan Korea jauh lebih murah di negara aslinya ketimbang di store di Indonesia, terutama untuk brand-brand yang menggunakan distributor. Yang saya tau salah satu brand yang harganya gak jauh beda (bahkan relatif sama) dengan harga di Korea adalah brand Laneige. Satu-satunya yang membedakan adalah varian produk yang ada di store di Indonesia tidaklah sebanyak yang ada di Korea dan jarang juga ada packaging limited edition yang di jual di store di Indonesia. Infonya sih hal ini disebabkan karena proses di BPOM yang cukup lama.

Berikut rekomendasi produk dari saya (sebagai catatan saya bukan beauty blogger, jadi semua rekomendasi di bawah ini adalah berdasarkan apa yang sudah saya coba saja – jujur saya belum mencoba banyak produk yang ada di pasaran, produk-produk di bawah ini pun saya coba setelah survey sana-sini dengan membaca review di website, blog, maupun youtube – apa yang cocok di kulit saya belum tentu cocok di kulit anda).

Here are the products that I use and I recommend (please note that I’m not a beauty blogger that had tried many products before made a recommendation. I do tried some products but most of them I tried after I’d read many reviews on the product official website, blog, youtube, etc. So, a product that suits my skin doesn’t always suits your skin).

Skin care

1. Sheet mask / patch

This is a must buy item in Korea. You would regret it if you leave Korea without buying a single sheet mask at all. Korea produces many kinds of sheet with many kinds of ingredients inside. You can find a sheet mask/ patch dedicated for your face, foot, hand, lip, chin, nose, under eye, cheek, ankle, and many more. All of them come with a very good ingredients and some even with a cute packaging. Every beauty brands in Korea have their own sheet mask / patch range. The price of this sheet mask is really affordable. In Korea, you can buy it from KRW 500. There are many special price / offers for sheet mask.

Tips:

- buy it at big supermarket like Lottemart at Seoul Station -they have many special offers for sheet mask.

- For sheet mask, try to buy it more than 10 sheets, since if you buy it 1 pcs only, the price will be more expensive.

- If you have decided to buy many sheet masks, you should be prepared to carry these heavy stuff. Hehee.. since you need to buy it more at least 20 sheets in order to get a good price, the weight of these items will be really really heavy. Believe me, carrying 20+20 sheet masks with you is heavier than carrying 5 lotions in bottle packaging ^^.

Ini adalah produk kecantikan yang wajib dibeli di Korea. Kenapa? Karena di sana ada berbagai varians sheet mask / patch yang beredar di pasaran dengan berbagai kegunaan juga. Jenisnya juga beraneka ragam dari sheet mask untuk wajah sampai berbagai patch untuk kaki, tangan, pipi, hidung, dagu, bahkan juga bibir. Harga sheet mask ini juga dibendel cukup murah di Korea, mulai dari KRW 500 (IDR 6000).

Tips:

- supermarket besar seperti Lottemart di Seoul Station sering kali memberikan penawaran khusus untuk sheet mask yang biasanya lebih murah daripada di Myeongdong, bedanya, klo di Myeongdong mereka banyak memberi bonus sample, di Lotte mart tidak.

- Untuk mendapatkan harga yang murah, kita harus membeli minimal 10 pcs sheet mask, karena special price biasanya berlaku untuk 10+10, 5+5, 20+20, dan seterusnya. Jangan membeli satuan, harganya bisa jauh lebih mahal – dan jarang juga ada store yang jual satuan.

- Kalau membeli sheet mask dengan jumlah yang cukup banyak, satu hal yang pelu diingat sheet mask ini kalau 1 biji doang gak berat tapi kalau lebih dari 10, minta ampun beratnya. Percaya atau tidak , menenteng sheet mask 20+20 pcs jauh lebih berat dibanding 5 pcs sleeping pack kemasan botol kaca. Jadi, siapkan tenaga kalian, ruang koper dan tentunya jatah bagasi. Saya sendiri untuk kedepannya akan membatasi jumlah titipan untuk sheet mask.

2. Sleeping Pack

A sleeping pack actually is a kind of mask too with a liquid or gel texture. It’s difference from ordinary mask because you can leave it on your face all night long.

Sleeping pack ini benernya adalah masker wajah juga. Yang membedakannya dengan masker konvensional adalah yang ini teksturnya berupa gel atau cair yang tidak perlu dibilas, dapat dibiarkan di wajah semalaman dan keesokan paginya, saat kita bangun tidur tinggal cuci muka saja.

3. Toner

I like Korean toner because most of them is alcohol free.

Alasan saya menyukai Korean toner adalah karena mayoritas produk mereka bebas alkohol.

4. Cleansing Oil

Have you ever heard about Korean double cleansing method? Korean people are double cleansing their face using two different product. The first cleansing step is using oil based product -> cleansing oil. The second step is using water based product -> cleansing foam /gel.

I recommend Korean cleansing gel because the product is cheaper than the western brand and almost every Korean brand have this kind of product. You can find many kinds of cleansing oil that suitable for your skin type.

Pernah dengar tentang metode double cleansing? Ini adalah meyode membersihkan muka yang dilakukan oleh mayoritas cewek Korea. Mereka terbiasa membersihkan wajahnya dua kali dengan 2 produk berbeda. Yang pertama adalah pembersih berbahan dasar minyak, ct. Cleansing oil. Step kedua adalah membersihkan wajah dengan pembersih berbahan dasar air, ct. Cleansing foam/gel.

Saya merekomendasikan cleansing gel dari brand Korea karena harganya yang lebih murah dibanding dengan brand barat dan hampir semua brand produk kecantikan Korea punya cleansing gel/foam/oil.

Make up

Just like their skin care, Korean make up products are also cheaper than the western product with various kind of products.

Gak Cuma skincarenya, make up Korea juga harganya jauh lebih murah dari brand barat dan brand Korea juga punya varian produk yang lebih banyak.

1. Cushion compact

K-beauty is the first one who discovered a cushion compact. It was IOPE the 1st brand that launch this product. You can use it as a foundation instead of carrying a bottle of foundation, a brush / beauty blender separately. I like this product so much because it’s so practice and so much easier than using a foundation ^^ ( I’m a newbie in make up world) and the result of the application is so great.

Pernah dengar tentang cushion compact? Cushion yang ini gak asa hubungannya dengan bantalan kursi. Cushion compact adalah foundation yang di kemas dalam bentuk Compact powder, jadi lebih mudah dibawa dan diaplikasikan. Cushion compact pertama kali dibuat dan dipasarkan oleh brand kosmetik Korea, IOPE.

Saya suka banget dengan produk ini karena hasilnya yang bener-bener bagus dan praktis dalam hal pengaplikasian. Produk ini cocok banget buat mereka yang baru kenalan dengan yang namanya make up.

2. Lip product.

From conventional lipstick to lip tint, K-beauty have various kinds of lip product with high quality and affordable price. Most of them also come with cute packaging.

Pemulas bibir di Korea punya banyak varian produk, dari yang berupa lipstik sampai berupa marker. Yang menarik dari produk Korea adalah kemasannya yang unik dan cute, kualitasnya bagus dan tentu saja harganya yang terjangkau.

3. Eye brow product

Korea have various innovation in eye brow product, from brow mascara to tattoo pen.

Korea punya banyak variasi produk untuk alis, dari brow mascara sampai tattoo pen.

4. BB cream / cc cream

Almost every cosmetic brand in Korea have a bb cream or cc cream product.

My other favorite is nail color. If you like nail coloring, you will love KK-beauty because they have many choices of nail color that come with affordable price. The price is start from KRW 1000.

I, personally, starting to use make up thanks to Korean wave and its no make up make up trend. I used to hate make up things because mostly, the result of the make up is to make your face looks differently (different doesn’t always refer to beauty – some people puts too much make up on their face). Because of K-beauty, I knew that the main reason of make up is to improve your appearance. You don’t need to put many vivid colors on your face to improve your appearance.

Saya, pribadi, dulunya tidak suka dengan make up karena kesan yang saya tangkap dari orang yang mengenakan make up adalah mereka make up untuk show off, untuk tampil beda, jadi cenderung hasilnya menor dengan warna-warna eye shadow ngejreng sesuai warna baju dan eye liner model cat eye. Setelah terkena deman Korea, kesan saya terhadap make up perlahan berubah. Saya mulai menyukai make up tapi hanya khusus untuk no make up make up yang menjadi trend sepanjang masa di Korea. Konsep no make up make up ini adalah konsep yang membedakan antara make up barat dengan make up Korea. Dari konsep inilah, saya tau klo make up itu tujuan utamanya adalah untuk menutupi kekurangan dan tidaklah harus dengan warna-warna ngejreng ataupun tumpukan eye shadow dan eyeliner berbagai macam model.
